Local goat exhibitors compete in second show of the season

Wilkes County 4-H and FFA Market Goat Show Team members are counting down their show dates as they prepare for the State show in October. Most recently, the team competed in the Bulldawg Bonanza Goat Show in Athens on August 22 against 220 other goat exhibitors. It was their second show for the season.
The team’s winnings were as follows:
Chase Shelton, top showman for Wilkes County, placing third in weight class and sixth in showmanship; Erin McLeroy with fifth in weight class and fifth in showmanship; Megan Thackston with fifth in weight class and honorable mention in showmanship; Cody McLeroy and Shannon Thackston both placing sixth in weight class and honorable mention in showmanship; Miranda Crook with eighth in showmanship and honorable mention in weight class. Brooke Standard, Adam Stan- dard, Marisa Sifre, Rebekah Hubbard, Dustin Clark, and Marlyse Sifre were all honorable mention in both weight class and showmanship.
The UGA Bulldawg Bonanza Goat Show is sponsored by the University of Georgia Livestock Judging Team and the UGA College of Agriculture and Environmental Science.
“These 4-H’ers have done an outstanding job competing in this rapidly growing livestock project. This is a first season ever for goat showing in Wilkes County’s long livestock history. As teachers and agents, we would like to congratulate each exhibitor and their parents for all their hard work. We wish the Wilkes Co. 4-H and FFA Market Goat Show Team the best as they head to compete in the Gwinnett County Fair on September 16,” said Audra C. Armour, County 4-H Extension Agent, and Nathan Heaton, FFA advisor.
