Memorial services for Roy Wills Bowers, 86, of Chandler, Arizona, were held at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona, on September 3, 2010. He died August 30, in Chandler.

Mr. Bowers was born in the Ficklen community of Wilkes County to the late Joseph Edward and Lenna Mae Bowers. He joined the United States Army in December 1942 and served in World War II and the Korean War, retiring at Ft. Carson, Colorado, in 1963.

Survivors include a son, Eddie Bowers of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two daughters and their husbands, Audrey and Ray Wishart, Pinetop, Arizona, and Fifi and Woody Walker of Colorado Springs; grandchildren, Gregg Walker, Chad Walker, Jason Walker, Christine Portugal, and Janice Bowers; greatgrandchildren, Ashley and Kyle Portugal, Aaron Bowers, and Josie Walker; a sister, Rennie Jordan of Toccoa; two brothers, John Bowers of LaFayette, California, and Bill Bowers of Mitchell; and a large number of relatives in Wilkes County.
