Graveside services for William Howard (Billy) Gunter Jr., 80, of Washington were held Wednesday, September 8, 2010, in Resthaven Cemetery, Washington, with Rev. Bill Boyd officiating. He died Sunday evening, September 5, at his home.

Mr. Gunter was a native and lifelong resident of Wilkes County. He was the son of the late William Howard Gunter and Nelle Harper Gunter. He was a retired selfemployed brick mason, and was a member of the Washington Church of the Mediator.

Survivors include his wife of 58 Years (59 in November), Anna H. Gunter of Washington; two sons, Freddie Gunter, and Edward (BB) Gunter, both of Washington; a granddaughter, Anna Claire Gunter of Washington; a nephew, Newton Gunter, and a niece, Dianne Wolfe, of Washington; and former daughter-in-law, Jan Jackson of Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Church of the Mediator Handicap Access Fund, P.O. Box 716, Washington 30673; or to the Washington-Wilkes Animal Shelter, 358 Brown Road, Washington 30673.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
