Funeral services for Xerxes (Sapp) Lewis Jr., 69, were held Sunday, September 5, 2010, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Sharon, with Rev. Rickey Lockhart officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. He died August 30.

Mr. Lewis was born in Hillman to the late Xerxes and Mary Jo Harris Lewis. He had worked in the logging business and loved gardening and hunting. He was known for his stories and jokes.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Jackson Lewis; children, David L. Lewis, Ida M. Jackson, Catherine D. Darlington, and Michael Jackson of Washington, Monte L. Jackson, Crestview, Fla.; three sisters, Pecola Harris and Carrie Pearl Davis of Sharon, and Mary Ann Blackburn of Washington; two brothers, George N. Lewis and Albert Lee Lewis of Atlanta; and nine grandchildren.

McLendon Memorial Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
