Georgia State Patrol troopers (l-r) TFC Will Greer, Senior Trooper R.L. Turner, and Trooper Brent Marxsen will be collecting Toys for Tots at several locations this Christmas season. Washington-based Georgia State Patrol troopers are working with a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve unit to hold the area’s official “Toys for Tots” collection for Wilkes County children.

“We’ve got our Toys for Tots boxes out all over,” said Trooper First Class Will Greer, “in Fievet’s, Tena’s Jewelry, Poss Ace Hardware, Bee Southern, the Boot Rack, Wilkes Eye Center, and Petal Pushers Christmas.”

The toys collected will go to the area Angel Tree charity, he said, to ensure that everything collected goes to eligible children without duplicating the efforts of any other charity.

The troopers will be holding toy drives next Saturday evening, December 10, on The Square and at Bi- Lo supermarket December 17 from 2-5 p.m. Troopers will be offering free checks of child safety seats at both toy drives, Greer said.

In addition, a local motorcycle club is conducting a toy drive that will meet at Wings ’n’ Things on Saturday, December 10.

Troopers will collect all the boxes on Monday, December 19, and deliver them to the Washington First Methodist Church for distribution to Angel Tree recipients.
