McCormick, S.C., man killed Monday in Lincolnton Road rollover accident

A McCormick, S.C., man was killed Monday afternoon when his pickup truck left the Lincolnton Road and flipped several times.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper Brent Marxsen said that James Donnell Brown, 63, was heading east on Highway 378 in his red Dodge Ram truck when the truck left the road surface and hit a driveway culvert, overturning several times.

The accident was witnessed by Olin Newby, who was tending livestock in an adjacent field. “It looked like he hit that culvert, bounced, then flipped two or three times and landed upside down,” Newby said. “I ran over to the wreck quick as I could, but there wasn’t anything I could do for him.”

The 911 call brought response from Wilkes deputies, Washington Police, and Wilkes EMS.

Marxsen said that Brown was wearing a seatbelt, but suffered massive blunt force trauma to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Assistant Coroner Blake Thompson.

When Brown’s family was notified of his death, Marxsen said, they said that he wore a cardiac pacemaker and had complained of not feeling well that morning. “It’s very possible he had a heart attack and lost consciousness before he left the road.”
