The unbeliever versus the believer according to the Gospel of Jesus

By REV. FICKLEN GUIN
(Mark 14:1-9)

The time was drawing near for Jesus to go to the Cross and die for our sins. The jewish passover was a special time for the jews, the time of their deliverance from slavery.

The Jewish people did not know it but the Lord was getting read to deliver all of us from our sins if we could beome a believer in Jesus.

On this day, more than 2000 years ago, jesus went to Bethany to the home of Simon the leper and had a meal with a group of people who wanted to believe that Jess was the Messiah.

Also there was those who did not believe in Him and wanted to do jeus harm. Read Mark 14:1-9.

There was a woman who came to the celebration meal to witness her belief and love for Jesus by taking a box of very special intment called spikenard. She broke it open and poured it on Jesus’ head.

Mark 14:4 says, “There was some that had indignation within themselves and said why was this waste of the ointment made?”

The Believer did not see this act as waste because she gave her gift with a heart of love for Jesus.

The Unbeliever saw the act as waste because they had not love for Jesus. “They murmured against her.”

But Mark 14:6-8 says, “Jesus said, let her alone; why trouble ye her? She has wrought a good work on me…She hath done what she could; she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.”

The unbelievers wanted to act as if they were overly concerned for the poor by saying the money for the ointment could have been spent on the poor.

But Jesus knew the hearts of the people, the unbelievers and the woman who was a believer. The feeling of on’s heart cannot be hidden.

The heart of an unbeliever cannot be camouflaged by speaking good sounding words when it comes to the mind of God in Jesus.

Hesus told everyone who was there, “Verily I say unto you, wheresoever this gospel thsll be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.”

We are not told who the woman was. She represents all the believers in Jesus whom God’s Holy Spirit reveals jeasus too. That includes me, you and anyone else who wants to believe in jesus. And every time one believes in jesus another memorial is given to this woman for her sincere belief in jesus.

Jesus lets us know that our goods for the poor in our world is expected by God to be done by all humans, one to another, because the poor will always be here on this earth. One day we can be rich, but the next day we can be poor.

But the moment for a believer to show his or her belief for Jesus is special and it must be done when we have that opportunit like th ewoman did to jesus even thought she did not know that Jesus would be gone soon in a physical way. She only knew that was her opportunithh t shwo her love for Jesus in a special way.

We all need to look for our special opportunit to show our love for Jesus.
