Two fundraisers for the Villagorda Family are scheduled for the next two weeks. The first is a chicken barbecue on Saturday, January 28, sponsored by friends with pickup at the Young Farmers Building on North Alexander Avenue. The second fundraiser for the Villagorda Family will be a fish fry on Saturday, February 4, 5-7 p.m., at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on the North By-Pass, dine-in or take-out. Tickets may be purchased in advance from CMA of Washington (Dr. Lester Johnston’s office), Wills Memorial Hospital administration, 706-678-9212, or Catholic Church parishioners.

The Washington Little Theater Co. annual meeting will feature three different parts. It will be held on Saturday, January 28, at The Bolton Lunceford Playhouse at 7 p.m., and features the annual meeting, the STARZ AWARDS, and the annual gala. Everyone is invited to this special kick-off for the 2012 season.

The January 30, OLLI/LIR noon meeting, lunch and learn, at the Parish House will feature Dr. Nan McMurry on Medical Practices and the Civil War.

The class of 1982 will meet on February 4 at 5 p.m. Pizza Hut in Washington.

The recently completed Essene Worship Center is now available for meetings, weddings, funerals, repasts, homecomings, birthday parties, etc. All interested parties should call Rev. Christopher Andrews, 706-678-4518.

The annual Doris Booker Black History Program will be held Sunday, February 19, 2012, 3 p.m., at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

New Sutton Temple Baptist Church will have a plate/what-not sale February 20, 21, 8 a.m.

Young’s Chapel Baptist Church will have a deacon ordination service for Larry Dunn Sunday, February 12, 4 p.m.

Price’s Grove Baptist Church will be celebrating the third anniversary of Pastor Marilyn C. Smith, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 29. Bishop Willie H. Lockhart of New Day Worship Center in Wrens will be the speaker.

The Washington Chapter of OLLI at UGA will have a threesession course titled Our Night Skies, with Dr. Edward M. Murphy as teacher by DVD. The sessions will be held on February 13, 20, and 27, 2 p.m., at the Parish House.

The music ministry of Clifford Grove Baptist Church will present a special musical on Saturday, January 28, at 5:30 p.m., at the church. Special guests will be Roxanne Broadnax, and “Revised.” Doors will open at 5 p.m. Admission is free.

The Wilkes County Sunday School Union Quarterly Bible Bowl Contest will be held Saturday, January 28, 1 p.m., at New Ford Baptist Church, Danburg. The public is invited to attend.

New Ford Baptist Church will have its annual black history month program Sunday, February 12, 3 p.m. The speaker will be Dr. Sam Davis, pastor of Beulah Grove Baptist Church, Augusta. Waggoners Grove Baptist Church Fellowship Choir of Colvert will provide the music. Dinner will be served.

The Friends of the Mary Willis Library will meet Thursday, February 9, 3 p.m., in the meeting room of the library.

Springfield Baptist Church, Washington, will celebrate its 92nd ushers anniversary February 12, 11:30 a.m.

The Washington Chapter of OLLI at UGA lunch and learn session at noon on January 30, at the Episcopal Parish House will feature Dr. Nan McMurry speaking on Medical Practice and the Civil War. Dr. McMurry is the niece of Peggy Barnett. Reservations for lunch should be made by Friday, January 27, by calling Ruth Rogers at 706-678-7366. Cost is $10.00.

Jackson Chapel AME Church, Washington, will have its annual men and women’s day program Sunday, January 29, 3 p.m. Rev. Dennis and Evangelist Penny Quinn of First Baptist Church of Lincolnton and Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Martinez will be guest speakers.

The Mallorysville Baptist Church Men’s Ministry Benevolence Committee will have chicken barbecue plates available to the public on Saturday, February 25. Cost is $7.00 per plate. There will be a pickup service in Washington. For more information or for tickets, call 706-401-0117.

New Saints CME Church, Washington, will hold the next SNAP meeting Saturday, February 11, at 11 a.m., at the Pizza Hut.

The Washington-Wilkes Arts Foundation annual meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 7 p.m., at the Mary Willis Library conference room.

The Wills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will have a book and toy sale, February 9, 7 a.m.-6 p.m., in the hospital’s Gordon Street Lobby. The sale will also be held on February 10 at the same location from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

New Springhill Baptist Church, 2491 Crawfordville Road, Philomath, will have a women’s conference Saturday, January 28, at 9 a.m. Keynote speakers will be Vanessa Smith of Crawford; Michelle White, Charlotte, N.C., and Latoya Andrews, Statesboro. Breakfast will be provided at 8:30 a.m. and lunch at the conclusion of the conference.

The Wills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in conjunction with Shepeard Community Blood Center will conduct blood drives in Wilkes County on Thursday, February 16. Blood donations will be received at Wills Memorial Hospital, 120 Gordon Street, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and at the First United Methodist Church, 102 W. Liberty Street, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
