Washington-Wilkes Tiger Band member Courtney Pate was named first chair trumpet while attending the University of Georgia JanFest last weekend. Brandon Freeman, Montell Walton, and Mary Katherine Strother also participated in the event.

Students auditioned for chair and band placement when they arrived Thursday afternoon. Throughout the weekend, students rehearsed several hours each day, attended master classes and concerts, and performed in a concert on Sunday.

Approximately 1,000 high school students from across the state attended the event.

“The students learned a lot, had a great time, and represented our school wonderfully,” said W-W Director of Bands Jeff Thomas. “I am very proud of them.”
