.Ruby Chafin celebrated a birthday on Thursday, January 12. She was honored with a birthday lunch on Sunday, January 15, at the home of granddaughter Jeannie and Fred Velazquez. In attendance were Ruby’s daughter, Pat Armour, with husband Bardahl, her grandson, Kelly Armour, and great-grandchildren Alena and Colton Velazquez. Maebrynn and I were also happily present for a delicious meal and entertaining company. .On Wednesday, January 18, Bonnie Boatwright joined Frankie Jones, Martha Jones, and James and Sharon Smith at Applebees in Athens for dinner. .Bonnie and J.W. Boatwright traveled to Bogart to visit Bonnie’s sister, Martha Jones, on Friday, January 20. Martha was not feeling well; I hope this week will improve her condition. .Kelly and I traveled to Greenville, South Carolina, on Friday, January 20. Following dinner, we met Jeannie Velazquez, Pat Armour, and Kim Gowan to attend the Jason Aldean concert, featuring Luke Bryan and Lauren Alaina (of last season’s American Idol). Those Georgia boys put on a great show! I do believe it was the best concert I have been to yet. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and we were delighted to see some familiar faces from Washington. .Pastor Jim Newsome brought a very good message entitled “Teachable” from the book of Deuteronomy at Sardis Baptist Church on Sunday, January 22. The congregation was led in joyful song by Joyce Fry, with Pam Hall at the piano. Children enjoyed a message from Pastor Newsome, and the Lord’s Supper was observed. The pastor began a study from the Book of Revelation during the Sunday evening service. .The WMU of Sardis Baptist is collecting kitchen items for H.E.A.R.T. ministries. Following church services on Sunday, January 29, will be a “fifth Sunday” covered dish meal. There will be no evening service that day. .Rev. Donnie Berry delivered a sermon on Psalm 23 at Mallorysville Baptist Church on Sunday, January 22. Although I know this passage by heart, I am always grateful to hear it anew. The words are such a comfort (which Kelly and I needed while trying to keep Maebrynn and Adriana still in church). Thanks, again, to the congregation at Mallorysville Baptist for being so warm and welcoming. .Bonnie Boatwright, Kay Berry, Kaitlyn, Bryson, and Kaidyn Porter enjoyed Sunday dinner at Mae Sally’s in Washington following church on Sunday, January 22. .Please lift up the following individuals and family in prayer and thought: Bobby Lamar, Mozelle Casey, Douglas Mathews, Charles Boatwright, Randall Smith, Martha Jones, and Donna Bailey. Please let me know if any need to be added. .I hope everyone enjoys the last full week of January. I am starting out with a sick baby girl, but I know things will look better by the end of the week if we take things one day at a time. Make the most of these days!
