The Washington-Wilkes chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) received first place at the annual state conference of the Georgia Society SAR for its performance in Revolutionary War veteran recognition and marker sponsorship. Thomas Owen, president, accepted the award on behalf of the local organization. Additionally, Owen was elected to the SAR Board of Managers and will serve as Genealogist for the Georgia State SAR until 2013.
