Sandra Elizabeth Rogers

Funeral services for Master Corporal Sandra Elizabeth “Sandy” Rogers, 48, of Aiken, S.C., were held Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at the University of South Carolina Aiken Convocation Center with Dr. George K. Howle officiating. Interment with honors was at historic Bethany Cemetery in downtown Aiken. She died Saturday, January 28, after being shot during a traffic stop in the City of Aiken.

Master Corporal Rogers was a lifelong resident of Aiken and was the daughter of Clarence Jack Rogers and the late Dr. Mary Ann Sprawls Rogers of Aiken; and granddaughter of the late City of Aiken Chief of Police, James M. Sprawls. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. She began working with the City of Aiken Public Safety in 1984 and was a Field Training Officer and Speed Measuring Device Instructor. She was a member of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association and a member of the South Carolina Firemen’s Association.

She received the Distinguished Service Award and the Lifesaving Award in 2003; and the Certificate of Commendation in 2011. She helped start the Book Bag Program for Helping Hands and was a mentor to many troubled individuals. She loved her family and her job.

Survivors in addition to her father include her life partner, Frances A. Williams; a sister, Virginia R. Johnson of Aiken; two brothers, Jack Rogers Jr., Charlotte, N.C., and James H. Rogers, Aiken; and numerous relatives in Wilkes County.

Pallbearers included her shift co-workers, Teddy Umsted, Mat Braxton, Karl Odenthal, Billy Cameron, Jason Fogle, Carlos Colindres, Jacob Pridgen, Timothy Hawkes, Brenton Russo, and Brandon Bethman.

Honorary pallbearers were employees of the City of Aiken Public Safety, Ryan Sparling, Howard Venning Morrison, and nationwide Law Enforcement Officers.

Shellhouse Funeral Home of Aiken was in charge of arrangements.
