Campbell wins W-WES Geographic Bee



Jahari Campbell, a fifth grade student at Washington-Wilkes Elementary School, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee and a chance at a $25,000 college scholarship. The school-level Bee, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round in the 24th annual National Geographic Bee. Jahari took a written test on which up to 100 of the top scorers will be eligible to compete in the state bee on March 30. Jahari received a medal and certificate, and his name will be added to the plaque that hangs in the lobby of W-WES. Judges for the Bee were Audra Armour, Ashley Barnett, and Kyle Brown. Thirtyseven students participated in the National Georgraphi Bee sponsored by Google. Top finishers in the W-WES bee were (l-r) Jahari Campbell, first runner-up Ethan Fain, and second runner-up Samantha Harkins.
