Block party was a great event

To the Editor

On behalf of the fireworks committee, the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce and the Welcome Center would like to thank everyone involved in organizing and hosting the Block Party/Street Dance on Friday, June 15. It was a great event for the community and we raised some money for our annual fireworks display.

We’d specifically like to thank Jason Crook for being the D.J. and having the great idea in the first place, Anna Smith and Brittaney Gebing for using their beautiful voices to entertain us with karaoke, and Robert Geiger and Ed Franklin of Talk of the Town for helping to organize the whole event. A big thanks is due to Mike Eskew and our City Council for their support in using the downtown Square.

Also, we’d like to recognize the Washington City Police and the Wilkes County EMS for ensuring the safety of our citizens during this event (and always). We would also like to thank the City of Washington Street Department for all that they did. And last but not least, all the people that attended, gave to the fireworks fund, and every citizen that volunteered their time to plan and work this event.

We are so fortunate to live in a great community were people always come together to make good things happen. Just as a reminder, donations are still needed for the fireworks. The whole community benefits from this event and it’s vital that the whole community supports it. Go to the Chamber/Welcome Center or F&M Bank to make donations.
