Wills Memorial Hospital CEO Jane Echols and the entire Wills Memorial staff will welcome the public to a grand opening and health fair next Saturday, September 8. The event will celebrate the completion of a long construction project that completely remodeled the hospital. After years of construction, Wills Memorial Hospital will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony soon to celebrate completion of the rebuilding project and host a health fair to introduce the new facility to the public.

The official ribbon cutting will be held at the new Hospital Drive main entrance Saturday, September 8, at 3 p.m. “We’ll be holding a reception and tours of the new facility from 3 to 5 p.m.,” said CEO Jane Echols. “The public is invited to attend all of the day’s events, and we hope everyone comes to see us.”

The Wills Memorial Community Health Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gordon Street lobby area, said Susan Duncan Pope. “We will have over 20 health-related booths from Wilkes and Lincoln Counties. MCG Health will be providing free blood-glucose, cholesterol, and bone-density screenings, and Wilkes Eye Center will perform free visual acuity and glaucoma tests.”

Information about herbs and supplements will be available from Lincoln Wellness Center, and Lincoln Athletic Club will offer fitness tips. Other vendors will include Tignall Assisted Living, University Breast Health, F.A.D. Counseling, the Taliaferro County Health Department, CSRA Home Health Agency, and many more, Pope said.

The health fair will also host the Washington Farmers Market with Tink’s Beef from 9 a.m. to noon; and UGA’s Hairy Dawg, along with the Washington-Wilkes Tiger football team, will be available for photos. There will be a live performance by the Tiger band at noon. A jump castle will entertain the children and the Washington and Lincolnton HOSHA clubs will have face-painting booths.

Original art by local artists Michael Bailey and Laura Connely will be on display in the new entrance and lobby area, and a temporary display of student art from Washington Wilkes Elementary school will be set up in the physical therapy/ occupational therapy facility.
