Square to fill with sound of gospel singing at Saturday’s Gospel Music Extravaganza


At Saturday’s Gospel Music Extravaganza on The Square, members of church choirs from all over the area will join together at the end to sing as one big choir. Churches, choirs, and individuals from all over Wilkes County and surrounding communities have already signed up to participate in the Countywide Gospel Music Extravaganza on The Square in Washington Saturday, September 8, at 6 p.m.

“Twenty or more individuals, church groups, choirs, poetry reciters, and praise dance groups have signed up to perform,” said Clara Sutton, event chairman. “Please don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs for the evening.”

Some of the the participants, she said, include choirs from First Baptist Church, Mark’s Tabernacle Youth Choir, Springfield Baptist Youth Choir and Praise Dancers,

Springfield Community Mass Choir, The Anointed Ones, Harvest Time Christian Center, New Sutton’s Temple Childrens Choir and Adult Choir, Mr. Raymond Porter, The Four Graces, White Rock Baptist, Sara and Xaquira Pitts, Reeves Chapel, Rev. Lance Pitts, Elder Jesse Walker, The Kings Brothers, the Clark Family Gospel Singers, Crawfordville Holiness Church, poetry by Maeozia Wilson, and instrumental solos on the keyboard and soprano saxophone by J.M.H. Studio.

Also performing Saturday will be The Stars, The Church of the Lord Jesus, Jackson Chapel’s duet of Cynthia Walton and Barbara Martin, Christ City of Prayer, poetry from Deana Acree, Lincolnton First Baptist Men’s Chorus and others.

At the end of the event, she said, “everyone will join together as one big choir” and sing “Victory is Mine.” Also participating will be Melvene Binns, Rev. Charlie Wood, Rev. Christopher Andrews, Washington Mayor Ames Barnett, Rev. Kevin Madden, Rev. Willie Crew, and others.
