Reese Booker city pool, country club pool ready for summer, offering swim lessons

The city pool at Reese Booker Park and the pool at Washington- Wilkes Country Club will both open Memorial Day weekend for the summer, and both will offer swimming lessons.

City pool manager Gregg Wilkinson said that starting Saturday, May 25, the city pool will be open from noon-6 p.m. on weekends and holidays, noon-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and will be closed to the public on Mondays. The 21st Century program will give swimming lessons to their members on Mondays in June.

Hours will be cut back to weekends only on August 3 when school starts back.

Swimming lessons will be available at the city pool from June 5 to June 28 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m.-noon for children, and from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for adults, including seniors. The morning lessons will be split into age groups – 4 to 6 years, 7 to 9 years, and 10 to 12 years old, with 20-minute lessons for each. Registration for lessons opens May 15 and June 1. The lessons cost $30 per person.

For more information, contact Wilkinson at 770-670-8668.

With renovations complete, the pool at Washington-Wilkes Country Club is open now until at least September 30. The club is offering a special summer membership for $300 per family for the entire summer season. For more information, call Amy Johnston during the day at 706-401-2998, or Charles LeGette during evenings at 706-678-4531, or the W-WCC pro shop weekends at 706-678-2046.

The country club will also give swimming lessons from May 27-31 in the mornings and June 3-7 in the afternoons. Contact Susan D. Pope at 706-318-8434 for information on lessons.

“No lifeguard is provided for swimming at the club,” LeGette said, “so swimming is at your own risk. Parents are responsible for the supervision of their children at all times.”
