Cornelia Johnson Circle meets on May 7 at Randall home

The Cornelia Johnson Circle of the First United Methodist Church met Tuesday, May 7, at the home of Jo and Buzzy Randall for its annual salad supper.

Mrs. Randall, Becky Stover, and Linda Smith were hostesses for the evening. A short business meeting was led by Judy Thompson, president. Prayer requests were taken as well as names of those to whom cards and messages of encouragement needed to be sent. Laura Toburen led the group in prayer.

It was noted that Susan Branan would coordinate the meals for the seniors and shut-ins for May.

Mrs. Thompson thanked Pauline Bell and all who had contributed to the success of the Tour of Homes Luncheon.

Cacky Weber volunteered to coordinate with Tena Blakey regarding an appropriate outreach such as birthday recognitions, etc. to the residents of the Soto Homes in Washington.

As a follow-up to a previous meeting discussion, Mrs. Thompson also announced that beginning in July Lisa Isham would lead the initiative in sponsoring a parenting education project for the young mothers at the Methodist Home. This would entail the prospect of a possible educational book/toy shower followed by some programming which would show parents how to work with their children in developing age-appropriate skills.

Laura Toburen announced that the church would be engaging in a Global Impact Celebration for all levels of missions, local, national, and international to be held the week of September 18-22. She indicated that several currently-serving missionaries would be present along with some others with strong mission ties being available as resource people during the week. The week’s activities will include programs for children and youth as well as cottage meetings in homes, all culminating in an international banquet. She requested support from the circle in this endeavor.

The circle will make a monetary gift to the District UMW to purchase sponges for the annual district project of providing flood buckets for disaster areas.

Sharon Liggett and Jo Randall agreed to serve as hostesses for the next meeting on September 3 at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Mrs. Thompson announced several up-coming programs already on next year’s calendar.

Members present were Lefreda Adair, Rachel Arnold, Pauline Bell, Susan Branan, Marcia Delaney, Bunny Gunby, Sharon Liggett, Linda Smith, Becky Stover, Cacky Weber, Tracie Burriss, June Durden, Shelley Warrenfells, Beth Conard, Jo Randall, Judy Thompson, Laura Toburen, and Carolyn Reynolds.
