Evensong services set on Dec. Sundays at Episcopal Church

During December the Episcopal Church of the Mediator will offer an Evensong service at 4:30 each Sunday afternoon.

Evensong is an ancient prayer service made up of elements of the Vespers and Compline services once sung throughout Europe in monasteries. But in the 16th century the English Archbishop Thomas Cranmer combined these two services so they could be sung at the close of the day in parish churches throughout England. Even today people attend those services to experience their peaceful beauty before beginning their work week.

With the assistance of local organist Ben Danner, Rev. Loree Reed is offering these services to the Washington community during Advent, the fourweek period that precedes Christmas, as a quiet respite during a busy season. Each service will conclude with Holy Communion.

The church is located at 214 E. Robert Toombs Avenue in Washington.
