The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet on Thursday, June 12, at 2 p.m. in the Wilkes County courthouse with a work session immediately prior in the chairman’s office beginning at 1 p.m.

Carter’s Grove Baptist Church will have “An Old Fashioned” Vacation Bible School for all ages Monday-Thursday, June 23-26, from 6-8 p.m. with a free dinner each evening. VBS graduation will be Friday, June 27, at 7 p.m. There will be ventriloquists, special singing, a rhythm band, skits, puppet shows, a Bible class, and arts and crafts each night. Jackson, pastor of New Hope Freewill Missionary Baptist Church in Hartwell. The following Monday Wednesday, June 23-25, at 7:30 p.m., services will be with Pastor Juanita Outlaw of Walking by Faith Ministries in Augusta.

Mount Nebo Baptist Church will celebrate its 143rd church anniversary on Sunday, July 27, at 11 a.m. The guest speaker will be Dr. Johnny Lewis of Green County.

The Fourth Shiloh Missionary Baptist Association will host a banquet to establish The G.L. Avery Memorial Scholarship this Saturday, June 14, at 7 p.m. at the Warren County Community Service Building in Warrenton.

The New Springhill Baptist Church of Philomath will hold its annual “Tailgate For Christ – Juneteenth Celebration” on Saturday, June 14, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. In addition, a four-mile “Walk for Christ” and a one-mile Fun Run will begin at 8 a.m. Registration can be completed the day of the race. Race packets can be picked up at the church the day of the race starting at 7 a.m. There will be free food, horse and mule rides, antique cars, water entertainment for kids, and more.

The W-W Toastmasters Club will have its regular meetings on June 16 and 23 at the Mary Willis Library. Members of the Wilkes, Lincoln, and McDuffie communities who are age 18 and above and desire to improve their public speaking and leadership skills are invited to attend and participate.

A benefit chicken barbecue will be held Saturday, June 21, from noon-2 p.m. at the Tignall school lunchroom. Eat in or take out is $7. Proceeds to go to Eli Morgan, sixyear old grandson of J.R. Gayton.
