Commission meeting unusually brief

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners could have almost not met at all when the members gathered for their regular monthly meeting last Thursday. From the time the opening prayer started until the vote to adjourn was cast barely two-and-a-half minutes elapsed.

In the only item of business, the commissioners reappointed County Administrator David Tyler as the County Legislative Coordinator. Duties of the CLC include monitoring and reporting on activities of the Georgia General Assembly, and providing information to the Association County Commissioners of Georgia.

Also during the meeting, Tyler reported that revenues for the month of September included $81,014.44 in Special Purpose Local Option Sales, $52,929.29 in Local Option Sales Tax, and $68,760.37 in TSPLOST.

Commissioners Divenski Lee, Ed Geddings, Clem Slaton, and Chairman Sam Moore were in attendance. Commissioner Kerry McAvoy was absent due to illness. Also attending the meeting were County Attorney Charles LeGette, County Clerk Karen Burton, Tyler, and a few visitors.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners will be held on Thursday, December 11, at 2 p.m. in the Wilkes County courthouse with a work session immediately prior in the chairman’s office beginning at 1 p.m.
