The Mary Willis Library will host a special Christmas story time on Tuesday, December 23, at 10 a.m. for ages 2-8. The program will consist of several Christmas stories, a puppet show, a short video, and a Christmas craft.

The Tignall City Council will meet at 5 p.m. on January 14, at City Hall in Tignall.

Black Rock AME Church invites the public “to come and celebrate everybody’s birthday” during regular services at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 21. Cake and punch will be served after the services.

Jackson Chapel AME Church will hold its Family and Friends Testimony and Musical Program at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 28. Guests will include the House of Prayer Male Chorus from Hartwell.

The Sanctuary Church of God will hold its annual Christmas Eve candlelight communion on Wednesday, December 24, at 6 p.m. The Sanctuary is located at 1365 Tignall Road, Washington.

Tignall Baptist Church will be having a candlelight and communion service on Christmas Eve at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

New Saints CME Church will have a Watch Night Service on Wednesday, December 31, from 10 p.m.-midnight. Pastor Henderson will be the speaker and “House of Prayer” will provide songs and music.

The NAACP Emancipation Proclamation Program will be held on January 1 at noon, at The Third Shiloh G.L. Avery Center. Pastor Cory Henderson of Poplar Springs Baptist Church will be the guest speaker.

The Washington City Council will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday, January 12, at The Pope Center beginning at 6 p.m. A work session will be held starting at 5 p.m.

The Pompey Chapel Baptist Church Pastor’s Appreciation will be on December 28, at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Timothy Bell and Brinkley Chapel are the special guests. Dinner will be served.

Heard’s Chapel Baptist Church will hold a Watch Night Service on Wednesday, December 31, at 10:30 p.m. The public is invited and breakfast will be served.

Flint Hill Baptist Church will have its Usher Board Program on Sunday, January 4, at 11:45 a.m.

Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church will be having a Pastor’s Installation Service on January 4, at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Rev. Larry Norman. A reception will follow at The Third Shiloh Rev. G.L. Avery Center.

Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church will be having an Usher Board Program on January 25, at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Rev. Demetrice Porter.

Wilkes Transit and The Roy L. Burns Senior Center will be closed December 22-26. The center will reopen December 29, 2014.

The Flint Hill Baptist Church, Mother Board will present a Christmas program Sunday, December 21, at 10 a.m. The public is invited and refreshments will be served.

The Wilkes County Relay for Life Planning Committee and Team Captains meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at The Sanctuary Church. The public is invited and encouraged to attend on January 13, February 10, March 10, and April 14. Other important Relay for Life dates include the kickoff on Tuesday, January 6; the Relay for Life on April 17 from 6 p.m. to midnight; and the Survivor Dinner tentatively set for March 24.

Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Rayle will host its annual Christmas program on Saturday, December 20, at 3 p.m. The public is invited to join the Youth Department in the celebration.

New Salem Baptist Church will have Watch Night Service on December 31 beginning at 10 p.m. Rev. Demetrice Porter will be the guest speaker and the music will be by the Young’s Chapel and New Salem choirs.

Clifford Grove Baptist Church of Rayle will hold its Sunday, December 21, service at The Pope Center in Washington. Reeves Chapel Baptist Church will celebrate Pastor Michael Gresham’s 27th Appreciation Day on Sunday, December 21, at 11:45 a.m. Pastor Mark Weaver of Ebenezer East and Summerhill Baptist Churches in Athens and Jefferson will be the speaker. Dinner will be served.

The Reese J. Booker’s Scholarship Program will convene at Mark’s Tabernacle Baptist Church on Sunday, December 28, at 6 p.m. The Sons of White Rock Baptist Church (Rev. Matthew Harden, Rev. David Fanning, and Rev. Gerald Perry) are scheduled to be the guest preachers. All churches and choirs are asked to be the special guests. The public is invited.

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, at the Wilkes County courthouse with a work session in the chairman’s office beginning at 5 p.m.

The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ will host prayer services nightly at 6 p.m. until December 31. The church is located at 279 Springfield Road in Crawfordville. The public is invited. Bertha Evans is the pastor.
