The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, at the ­Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 1 p.m.

The Washington Downtown Development Authority will meet on Thursday, April 21, at Farmers State Bank at 8:30 a.m.

The Wilkes Ministers United will sponsor the annual Easter sunrise service on The Square, Sunday, March 27, at 7 a.m. The public is invited to join in the Resurrection experience.

Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Rayle will hold a sunrise service this Easter Sunday, March 27, at 6:30 a.m. The public is also invited to celebrate Resurrection Day and a Resurrection production to be presented by the Pleasant Grove Youth Department at 11:30 a.m.

All parents are invited to attend the annual Title I Schoolwide Stakeholder meeting on Wednesday, March 30, at 3:30 p.m. at the Wilkes County Board of Education office on North Alexander Avenue.

New Saints C. M. E. Church’s next Safety Net Advisory Program (SNAP) meeting, will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Pizza Hut at 11 a.m. New members are welcomed.

The Daniels/Andrews family will host the second annual Colon Cancer Walk and barbecue plate sale in honor of Shirley “Mug” Daniels this Saturday, March 26, at Black Rock A.M.E Church in Tignall. The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the plate sale will follow at 11 a.m.

New Life Baptist Church will hold its Easter service Sunday, March 27, at 8:30 a.m. Breakfast will be served following the service and an Easter Egg hunt will follow breakfast. The public is invited to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ at New Life.

Gibson Grove Baptist Church will have its Easter Morning service on March 27, at 8 a.m. The public is invited.

Gibson Grove Baptist Church will celebrate its seventh pastoral anniversary on Sunday, April 24, at 3 p.m. Pastor James McIver and Pleasant Grove will be the special guests. Dinner will be served after the service.

Sandy Cross Baptist Church of Crawfordville will celebrate homecoming on April 3 with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and the worship service at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served following the worship service.

Washington V.F.W. Post 5899 will hold its monthly meeting and elections on Tuesday, March 29, at 6 p.m.

The reward for information leading to an arrest on the vandalism to the North Alexander School has been increased to $1,000. Anyone with information may call the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office at 706-678-2224.

A candidates forum featuring candidates for local political offices will be held at the Court Street Livery on Tuesday, April 26, beginning at 6 p.m. All local candidates will be invited to participate and the public is encouraged to submit appropriate questions in writing, in advance, to the W-W Chamber of Commerce.
