School system finances detailed

Steve Albertson (left), a retiring member of the Wilkes County Board of Education, explains some of the finer points of the school system budget to fellow Washington Rotary Club members Thomas Charping and M.R. Clayton following the program he presented to the club. Albertson explained that the Board of Education itself is not involved in the day-today operations at the schools but is concerned with policies and general management of the system. He told how the budget is developed each year and how revenues are split up between local, state, and federal sources. Albertson will have served on the board for 12 years. His seat will be filled by Ashley Barnett next year.
