Faith binds us to God’s love

By REV. FICKLEN GUIN
(Romans 8:35-39)

Once we are born again through faith in Jesus Christ, we become inseparable from the love of God through Jesus.

No matter what happens to us in the flesh, we cannot be separ a ted from Jesus our Saviour and God’s love for us.

Paul says, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulations, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” (verse 35)

When we examine this verse, we immediately see that it covers everything negative that can possibly happen to us during our physical life on earth.

Now we understand that any one of these things can happen to us. They are not a welcome thing to face at any time and they can cause us pain and suffering in our physical life here on earth.

Paul goes even further as he says, “As it is written, for thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” (verse 36)

When we accept Jesus to be our Saviour, we still have to live in our physical world that has many dangers to our physical lives. God does not give to us any guaranteed protection for our physical life and its dangers.

Paul does give to us a sense of security that is found in our faith in Jesus. He says, “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” (verse 37)

Through His Holy Spirit, God gives to us the spiritual strength that we need to deal with any physical calamity that could happen to us. Paul gives to us a list of things that will make it possible for us as Christians to make it through this life full of dangers.

Paul says, “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (verse 39)

There is no way we can have any better assurances to face our physical life here on this earth even with the physical and mental pain that we face in our lives. This is why we all need to have faith in Jesus in this life.
