God’s people by faith

By REV. FICKLEN GUIN
(Romans 9:25-33)

The Israelites were God’s first chosen people by the law. They came to God by Abraham and Sarah through Isaac, then Jacob, then Moses, to whom God gave His law, the Ten Commandments. They were to obey the command- ments and live by them, but they failed to keep them because mankind is born with the nature to sin. It came to be an impossibility and because of this, God says to Israel, “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he shall turn the heart.” (Malachi 4: 5,6) Elijah, God’s first prophet, did not die, but was received into Heaven by a fiery chariot. Before the end of time, Elijah will return to the Israelites and lead them to God by faith and not by keeping the law.

Today we are living in the period of time which Paul saith, “Also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved which was not beloved.” (verse 25) Paul is speaking of the Gentile people. Paul says, “It shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.” (verse 26)

Today we are living in that period of time when God is bringing His creation of people together through Jesus and God’s Church that Jesus established through God’s Holy Spirit by Faith in Jesus Christ as the Saviour of mankind. Esaias said, “Except the Lord of the Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma and Gomorrah,” totally destroyed. (verse 29)

But Paul says, “That the Gentiles which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.” (verse 30) Israel, which followed the law of righteousness, did not attain righteousness because they sought it not by faith. They stumbled at that stumbling stone. (verse 31, 32)

Paul says that “God laid a stumbling stone, a rock of offence, and that whosoever believeth in Jesus shall not be ashamed.” (verse 33) Instead we must all, by the end of time, become a people of Faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour of mankind, and we must all come to accept Jesus Christ to be our Saviour and Lord by our Faith.
