Heard’s Chapel Baptist Church youth will celebrate Black History on February 19, 2017, at 9:30 a.m.

The Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators Association will meet on Thursday, January 12, at 11 a.m. at the Welcome E. Mason Campus of Excellence (345 Ward Avenue, Lincolnton). All retired educators and friends of education are invited.

There will be a Country Cooking Supper fundraiser for Keith “Fat Baby” Ware at Fishing Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, January 28, 6-8 p.m. with a cost of $8 per plate.

Cherry Grove Missionary Church will hold its Usher Board Anniversary Program on Sunday, January 22, at 3 p.m. with guest speaker Rev. Robert Crawford. The public is invited and refreshments will be served.

The Tignall City Council will meet at City Hall in Tignall on Wednesday, February 8, at 7 p.m.

The Downtown Development Authority of the City of Washington will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the City Hall Annex on Thursday, January 19.

The Wilkes County Board of Education will meet at the board office on N. Alexander Avenue on Monday, January 23, at 2 p.m.

.

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, at the ­Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 5 p.m.

The Washington City Council will meet on Monday, February 13, at The Pope Center beginning at 6 p.m. A work session will precede the meeting at 5:30 p.m.

The Rayle City Council will meet at City Hall on Tuesday, February 14, at 6:30 p.m.

UCAP Martin Luther King Jr. weekend activities include the following: Saturday, January 14, – UCAP breakfast at the Third Shiloh building, 9 a.m., with Rev. Michael Gresham and Reeves Chapel Baptist Church of Tignall. Price of the breakfast is $6;

Sunday, January 15 – 3 p.m. Sunday service at the Third Shiloh building with Pastor Frances Harper and Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Crawfordville;

Monday, January 16 – parade lineup at noon and begin at 1 p.m. on Whitehall Street, near Rusher and Graham Streets, proceeding to The Pope Center.

Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Gary W. Black will be the featured speaker at the annual W-W Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet to be held February 4, at The Pope Center.

The City of Washington’s 237th Birthday Gala will be the focus of the Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation’s annual membership drive on Saturday, January 21, at the Washington Historical Museum from 7-9 p.m. A cover charge will take care of membership fees at the black-tie-optional event and cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Also a special, unannounced guest is expected to attend.

The local Toastmasters Club will meet at 6 p. m. at the Lincoln County Library on Thursdays, January 19, February 2, 16, March 2, 16, and 30. Anyone 18 years of age and older with a desire to improve leadership and public speaking skills is invited to attend and participate.

New Ford Baptist Church in the Danburg Community will have its annual Black History Program at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 12. Rev. Rhonda Hicks, a Greenforest Baptist Church Christian School faculty member and Associate Pastor of Greenforest Baptist Church of Decatur, will be the guest speaker. The public is invited.

New Ford Baptist Church will have its annual Family and Friends Day on Sunday, March 12, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Larry Norman, pastor of Flint Hill Baptist Church, as the guest speaker. The Flint Hill choir and church congregation will be special guests.

New Saints CME Church Safety Net Advisory Program (SNAP) meeting will be held Saturday, January 21, at 11 a.m. at Pizza Hut.

Mt. Carmel Baptist Church will host the annual Doris Booker Black History Program on the third Sunday, February 19, at 3 p.m. with W-WPRD Director Alvin Jones as guest speaker. Mt. Carmel Baptist Church is located at 306 Baltimore Road in Washington. The public is invited to attend.

Springfield Baptist Church will hold its Usher Anniversary on Sunday, February 12, at 11:30 a.m. Dinner will be served.

David Prosser will teach “The Kingdom of God as Present Day Reality” at Tree of Life Worship Center, 120 Brown Road in Washington, January 20-21 at 7 p.m. and January 22 at 11 a.m. The public is invited.
