Julian Frank Wilson

Funeral services celebrating the life of Julian Frank “Chunk” Wilson, 91, of N. Hulin Avenue in Tignall, were held on Monday, January 9, at 3 p.m. in Mallorysville Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Berry officiating. Interment with military honors followed in the church cemetery. He died Thursday, January 5, 2017, at Nancy Hart Nursing Center. He was husband of 66 years to the late Helen McAvoy Wilson.

Mr. Wilson was born in Wilkes County on September 25, 1925, son of the late Claude Dewey Wilson and Sallie Mae Johnson Wilson. He and his brother, Hank, were operators of Wilson Brothers Service Station and a member of Mallorysville Baptist Church. “Chunk” served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Surviving are his children: Wanda Youchim of Tignall, Peggy and Randy Smith of Elberton, and Chet Wilson of Washington; siblings Margaret Lee Peterman of Lexington and Gene and Bobbie Jo Wilson of Tignall; sister-in-law Dell James of Washington; brother-in-law Bobby Caldwell; grandchildren Jake Smith, Justin Wilson, and Jared Wilson; great-grandchildren Hunter Safrit, Ivy Safrit, Lance Corporal Wyatt Safrit, Tucker Smith, and Max Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his granddaughter Audrey Thornton and siblings R.C. Wilson, John Henry Wilson, Clarence Wilson, Eula Mae Jones, Grady Wilson, and Sara Caldwell.
