‘The Pete Gartrell Community Center’ is official



At a brief ceremony last Friday, March 10, Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Director Alvin Jones and others unveiled the new sign designating the gymnasium and facilities “The Pete Gartrell Community Center” in memory of Gartrell who served as director for many years before his untimely and sudden death in 2016. On hand for the event were Gartrell’s son, Justin (above), other family members, city and county officials, W-WPRD employees, and others who celebrated the memorial honoring Gartrell’s life’s work with young people and the community in general. Speaking for the family, Justin Gartrell said, “We really appreciate this.
