Stephanie Macchia speaks at Woman's Club meeting April 10

President Laura Toburen introduced Mrs. Macchia who serves as director of the Washington Historical Museum and is presently serving as president of the Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation.

Not only did Mrs. Macchia speak about the museum but the City of Washington noting people come to Washington because of its history, the genealogy, and the architecture. She stated our history and natural resources set us apart from other small towns. She spoke about “historical tourism” and how we need to capitalize on that. Ways we can help promote our museum and town are to bring visitors to the museum, encourage the schools to visit the museum, talk positively about our town and what it can offer, and become a member of the W-W Historical Foundation which does a lot to support the historical aspects of our area.

Mrs. Toburen presided over the business meeting. She welcomed members and guests, Norwood Strother, Cheri Turney, Amanda Braithwaite, Fran Thaxton, and Mrs. Macchia.

Mrs. Toburen offered a devotional on Easter, its meaning, the local Lenten services and lunches, and the Easter sunrise service.

Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Mrs. Toburen gave the blessing for the luncheon.

She also thanked the hostesses, Ruthie Clements and Sherry Westberry, who decorated in an Easter theme with beautiful sprays of dogwood branches and blossoms on the mantels and Easter baskets filled with colorful eggs all nestled in Easter grass on the luncheon tables.

Members were reminded of the next meeting on May 8 at noon.

Present for the meeting in addition to the guests were Laura Toburen, Ruthie Clements, Carol Jackson, Sherry Westberry, Mimi Henderson, Judy Boswell, Jennifer Hendrix, Sharon Jones, Elizabeth Crabbe, Paula Butts, Judy Anderson, Jennifer McAvoy, Nancy Madden, Diane Jordan, Geraldine Dill, and Kathy Agan.
