Myra Blackmon returned home April 24 from a ten-day trip to Berlin, Germany, and points beyond. She spent Easter weekend in Prague going especially to attend services at St. Clements Anglican Church where she attended while living in Prague. The service was also the retirement of friend and chaplain, Rev. Ricky Yates. In Prague she also enjoyed the traditional Easter markets in the city’s squares and attended an Easter concert of Baroque music with the 1705 organ and a soprano at St. James Basilica. She returned to Berlin on April 17 and visited Raymond Hughes, toured museums, enjoyed a food tour of “Berlin Mitte” (central city) and attended La Traviata at Deutche Oper Berlin where Hughes is chorus master. l Lynda and Cliff Hopkins of Hilton Head Island, S.C., enjoyed a weekend visit with Norma Hopkins. l Visiting last week with Barbara and Virgil Wolter were Sybil and Dale McAvoy of Covington and Carol and Rodney Driver of Zebulon, N.C. l In celebration of their eighth wedding anniversary on April 24, Nadia and William Kelman of Duluth and St. Augustine, Florida, spent the week with her parents, Jackie and Abdulla Al-Azawi at their home in the Tyrone community. They enjoyed meeting family members, dining at the Golden Coral, picnicking at home and at Russell State Park. William also toured Downtown Washington and was “very impressed” with the beauty of the Mary Willis Library and the friendliness and courtesy of the staff. l Visiting Sunday afternoon with Elizabeth and James (Beetle) Denard and celebrating Mr. Denard’s 87th birthday were Vicki and John Rodrigues of Watkinsville and daughter, Kirstin Rodrigues of Atlanta. The family brought a special birthday cake for the celebration. l Dan Adams of Atlanta visited recently with his mother, Rosalyn Adams. l Lyn Randall and Bill Cannon of Tybee Island visited Thursday through Saturday with Jane Newsome. l Ann and Lewis Cook returned Sunday from spending a week with Susan and John Whittingslow in Atlantic Beach, Florida. They attended granddaughter, Taylor Curington’s graduation from the University of Central Florida on Thursday. Sandra Standard joined the family Friday and on Saturday all enjoyed a graduation celebration honoring Taylor at the home of Cathryn and Chris Eagle, Ayden and Reagan, in St. Augustine, Florida. On Sunday morning the family gathered by the ocean at Atlantic Beach for the christening of the Cook’s great-granddaughter, Reagan, in a service conducted by her uncle, Daniel Whittingslow. l Jane Burton joined 80 members of the Colquitt family for a reunion at Cloud’s Creek Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Oglethorpe County Sunday. l Susan and Edward Pope Jr. met Katherine and John Gentry of Athens in Macon Tuesday afternoon to attend the Oconee County High School versus Howard High School soccer playoff game. Granddaughters, Anna and Caroline Gentry are members of the Oconee team. Oconee won and advanced to the Elite Eight and the Popes met the family again on Friday in Douglasville for the game with Chapel Hill High School, with Oconee losing to Chapel Hill. The Popes returned to Bogart on Sunday to join the Gentry family in attending Prince Avenue Baptist Church where Anna was honored with other seniors during the worship service and the luncheon following the service.
