The Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School Senior Banquet, at which the valedictorian, salutatorian, honor graduates, and scholarship recipients will be announced and recognized is set to be held Thursday, May 25, at 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

The Downtown Development Authority of the City of Washington will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the City Hall Annex on Thursday, June 15.

The City of Washington will host a community picnic from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, June 9, at Reese Booker Park. The event will serve to recognize the hard-working city staff members who installed new equipment for the playground.

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, at the ­Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 1 p.m.

New Life Baptist Church of Washington will hold a Youth Bus Ministry Yard Sale on Saturday, June 3, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Anyone who would like to donate items for the sale should drop off the items at the church located at 808 East Robert Toombs Avenue. The City of Washington swimming pool will not be open on Sunday, June 4 as it is reserved for the Bicycle Ride Across Georgia (BRAG) participants only.

A special retirement event for Horace Jordan will be held Thursday, May 25, at 4 p.m. at the Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department. Jordan will be officially retired on June 1, 2017, even though he will run the 2017 Summer Camp.

The Tignall City Council will meet at City Hall in Tignall on Wednesday, June 14, at 7 p.m.

Summer Camp for all ages will be held at the Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department, 22 Lexington Avenue in Washington, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, June 5-8 and 12-15. There is a $20 per week fee. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements. Call the Wilkes County Health Department at 706-678-2622 for more information and to schedule an appointment.

The Wilkes County Board of Education will meet at the board office on N. Alexander Avenue on Monday, June 19, at 2 p.m.

The Spirited Speakers Toastmasters Club of Wilkes and Lincoln Counties will meet on Thursdays, June 1, 8, 29, July 6, and 20. Anyone at least 18 years of age with a desire to improve communication and leadership skills, is invited to attend. Meetings are held on each first, third, and fifth Thursday at the Lincoln County Library, 181 N. Peachtree Street in Lincolnton, at 6 p.m..
