The priesthood of Jesus will save us

By REV. FICKLEN GUIN
(Hebrews 5: 8-14)

Our salvation from our sins that we commit in our lives while on this earth can only be taken out of our lives through our acceptance of Jesus Christ as our personal saviour. He is our High Priest before God in Heaven, where Jesus presents us to God after our physical death.

We are introduced to this experience in John 3:1-3, “There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews… he came to Jesus by night and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God, for all these miracles you doest can be only if God be with him.” Jesus answered, “Verily, verily I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (verses 1-3)

In verses 4-11, Jesus brings our physical and spiritual life together through two words: Born Again, of which Nicodemus did not understand, and we cannot understand unless we come to know Jesus Christ to be our Saviour.

Jesus said to Nicodemus and He says to us: “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (verse 3) How can Jesus be all of this for us? Hebrews 5:8 says, “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things he suffered.” “And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him, called of God a high priest after the order of Melchisedec.” (verse 10)

It is difficult for us to understand God’s plan of salvation that He gives to us through His Son Jesus Christ. But God has made this possible for us by sending His Holy Spirit into our world after Jesus ascended back into Heaven. Ten days after Jesus went back to Heaven Acts 2: 1-4 says, “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come…and they were in one accord…cloven tongue and a sound of a rushing mighty wind came… and they were filled with the Holy Ghost.” Mankind, as believers in Jesus Christ, lost their “dull of hearing” and became believers in Christ Jesus as Saviour and Master. They became ministers and teachers of God’s plan of salvation through Jesus Christ by the power of God’s Holy Spirit.

Hebrews 5: 13-14 say, “For every one that useth milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” This is what happens to us when we accept Jesus as our Saviour, and are baptized with God’s Holy Spirit. This happens when we repent of our sins and believe in Jesus as our Saviour.
