City’s community picnic Friday to show off park improvements

The City of Washington will host a community picnic this Friday, June 9, to show appreciation to “the hard-working staff of our beautiful city” and to debut the new playground at the Reese Booker Park.

Set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the park, located at 103 Reese Booker Street in Washington, the picnic will also serve as an opportunity for the city to show off the new playground and improvements made at the Reese Booker Center.

“We rent out the Reese Booker Center for family events and want to showcase it,” City Administrator Sherri Bailey said. “We also want it to be a day for the public to interact with city workers and build our community relationships with our citizens. And it’s a day for the staff to take some time to interact together and just have a little fun.”

There will be food available, plus fun playground activities, and a brief program.

Hamburgers, hotdogs, sides, and drinks will be provided free thanks to generous donations from Ingles, Bi-Lo, and Terry’s IGA, Bailey said, and the Washington Fire Department will be on hand to give out goodies to the children.

Everyone is invited.
