Signups for football camp at the Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department have begun. Camps will begin July 15.

A Homecoming Celebration for Black Rock African Methodist Episcopal Church in Tignall will be held Sunday, August 13, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Reginald Hunter, pastor of New Springhill Baptist Church, and his choirs and congregation as special guests.

Revival services will be held nightly at Black Rock AME Church beginning at 7 p.m. Au gust 15-17. Preachers for the services are Rev. Johnnie Hunter, pastor of the Norwood Circuit AMEC, on Tuesday; Rev. Terrie Patterson, pastor of New Liberty Hill AMEC in Thomson, on Wednesday; and Rev. Jimmy Roberts, pastor of New Saint Mark AME Church of Athens, on Thursday.

The Rayle City Council will meet at City Hall on Tuesday, July 11, at 6:00 p.m.

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, at the ¬≠Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 5 p.m.

The New Salem Baptist Church in the Tyrone Community will celebrate the third anniversary of Pastor C. M. Hawkins on July 16, at 3 p.m. Dr. Bobby Harris will deliver the message during the morning service and Dr. Melvin Davis will preach during the evening service. The fellowship meal will be served prior to the evening service. An invitation is extended to everyone to attend.

Mt. Carmel Baptist Church will celebrate its Family and Friends Day and homecoming on Sunday, July 23, at 11 a.m. with pastor Rev. Charles Belton as the speaker.

The Roy L. Burns Senior Citizens Center Advisory Council will meet on Tuesday, July 18, at 10 a.m.

New Life Baptist Church will host the southern gospel group The Perrys, who will be performing live on August 13 beginning at 6 p.m. New Life will hold the event at the church located at 808 East Robert Toombs Avenue in Washington. The public is invited and there is no admission charge. A love offering will be take for the group for those who wish give to their ministry. For more information, call 706-726-1517.

Hilliard Station Baptist Church will hold revival services Tuesday Friday, July 11-14, at 7:30 p.m. with guest speakers Sheena Hall of New Springhill Baptist Church on Tuesday; Vanessa Smith of Neal Grove Baptist Church in Commerce on Wednesday; Iris Cannon-Chandler of Springfield Baptist Church of Athens on Thursday; and Pastor Frances Stephens-Harper of Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Crawfordville on Friday. A fish fry will also take place on Friday night.

Wilkes Transit and The Roy L. Burns Senior Center are scheduled to be closed through July 7. They will re-open on Monday, July 10.

The Lyonsville Baptist Church Board of Deacons will celebrate its annual Deacon Board Fellowship on Sunday, July 23, at 2:30 p.m. The public is invited.

The Washington City Council will meet on Monday, August 14, at The Pope Center beginning at 6 p.m. A work session will precede the meeting at 5:30 p.m. There will be no regular July meeting.

The Wilkes County Extension Service will conduct a Poultry Education Seminar on Monday, July 10, 2017, at the McGill Woodruff Agriculture Center beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Brian Fairchild and Kent Wolfe from the University of Georgia will be the featured speakers. The purpose of the seminar is to provide education and clarity about poultry farming in Georgia to the citizens of Wilkes County.

The public is invited. There will be a $5 charge at the door to help pay for the meal.

The Spirited Speakers Toastmasters Club of Wilkes and Lincoln Counties will meet on Thursdays, July 6, and 20. Anyone at least 18 years of age with a desire to improve communication and leadership skills, is invited to attend. Meetings are held on each first, third, and fifth Thursday at the Lincoln County Library, 181 N. Peachtree Street in Lincolnton, at 6 p.m..

The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements. Call the Wilkes County Health Department at 706-678-2622 for more information and to schedule an appointment.
