Blackmon gets Rotary’s top honor

Harris Blackmon (right), chairman of the Wilkes County Airport Commission, received the Washington Rotary Club’s top award for community service as presented by club president Terry Boswell at the annual year-end party and awards ceremony. Blackmon was noted for his years of leadership on the Airport Commission and for the continuing progress made in development and enhancement to the W-W Municipal Airport. Just this year, a parallel taxiway was completed on the west end of the runway as the facility looks ahead to even more growth. The club’s award is presented annually to a member of the community who embodies the spirit and ideals of Rotary International.
