‘VIP’ event invites exchange of ideas, vision for downtown

A decided move to engage members of the community in the development of downtown Washington’s central business district is asking them to be “VIP participants” in an exchange of ideas on Tuesday, July 25.

Patterned on a “VIP” brand – Vision, Inform, Prioritize – the event will be held at the Court Street Livery from 6:30-8 p.m. with business leaders, citizens, and the community invited.

“The Mayor of the City of Washington, the Downtown Development Authority, and the Main Street Program invite you to participate in this exciting community vision event,” Main Street Director Elizabeth Elliott said. “Join us for an opportunity to share your vision for historic downtown Washington, the economic and social heart of our area.”

The evening’s agenda will focus on assets and opportunities for downtown’s central business district. “Business owners, residents, property owners, and customers, all are stakeholders in downtown’s future, and everyone’s input is important for planning the preservation and development of downtown,” Elliott said. “Simply put, we’ll ask you some questions; you give us your thoughts.”

She went on to point out that public input is critical to the strategic planning process for downtown economic development. “Washington’s city leadership seeks to solidify the Main Street Program’s role in the economic vitality and revitalization of downtown. This public input meeting will help inform the board and stakeholders on the community’s most important issues related to downtown,” she said.
