Continuing support appreciated

We would like to thank all the good citizens of Wilkes County and all of our local postal workers for their support in collecting 2,500 pounds of canned goods during the recent “Stamp Out Hunger” campaign. We also want to thank Coach Alligood for his support by collecting canned goods at the first scrimmage football game of the season.

Both of these events have gone a long way in helping feed the needy in Wilkes County. What started as an outreach ministry of The Sanctuary (then Washington Church of God) in 1999, has developed into a “community ministry” as others such as the Episcopal Church and Ruth Adams’ Yoga class came on board. For the past several years these two partners have consistently donated enough money to pay for the monthly produce truck from Golden Harvest Food Bank. Thank you!

With the recent merger of God’s Marketplace and Stephen’s House, new opportunities have emerged which have greatly enhanced the work here. A special thank you to all of our volunteers that come out and make this possible.

Stephen’s House Food Pantry is open to qualified applicants the third Saturday of each month from 8-10 a.m. Applications for food assistance are available at the pantry during that time. For further information, call the director of Stephen’s House, Pastor Alec George at 706-359-3342.
