Faye Janis Sisson McAvoy

Funeral services for Faye Janis Sisson McAvoy, 79, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Phillips Mill Baptist Church with Rev. Mark W. Woods officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. She died Thursday afternoon, July 6, at her residence.

Mrs. McAvoy was born in the Carter’s Grove community of Taliaferro County, and she lived in ¬≠Wilkes County all of her life. She was the daughter of the late John Lloyd Sisson and Reba Combs Sisson and was the wife of Henry Pope McAvoy. She had worked in local banks and was a member of Phillips Mill Baptist Church, where she had been the church organist and pianist for many years. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Cara McAvoy.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Pope McAvoy of Rayle; one daughter, Mary Ruth Pollock (Lawrence), of Cottonwood Heights, Utah; one brother, Mickey Sisson (Nancy) of Washington; a sister-inlaw, Mary Hawes of Rayle; and by a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Lawrence Pollock, John Howard, Tony Powell, James Meech, John Sisson, Brent Sherrer, and James Demastes.
