Humane Shelter gets grant for heartworm treatments

The Washington-Wilkes Humane Shelter Association (W-WHSA) recently received an Adoption Options (AO) in Action grant from the Petfinder Foundation.

The grant, which is awarded to those who attend an AO workshop in 2017, will be used to help offset the cost of heartworm treatments for shelter animals.

Kathy Agan, secretary of the W-WHSA, represented the local shelter at one of the workshops.

“The workshop was very informative,” stated Agan. “It was an opportunity to network and meet a lot of caring, dedicated people who, like members of the shelter association, are working hard to place animals in forever homes.

“Learning that others have the same problems we do and listening to their solutions was very beneficial.”

In her comments, Mary Elizabeth Burdette, W-WHSA president, said, “I would like to thank Kathy Agan for securing the funds for the shelter and the Petfinder Foundation for its generosity in sponsoring the grants.

“Through this grant, the foundation is assisting the shelter association in increasing the number of dogs in our community that can be treated for heartworms. This is definitely a win-win situation.”
