God gives us our covenant of life

(Hebrews 9: 14-28)

Hebrews 9:14 says, “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit, offered himself without spot to God, purge your con- science from dead works to serve the living God?”

There were shortcomings in God’s Old Testament covenant with Israel because it was based on mankind’s physical life here on this earth and their relationships with Jehovah God. It was a foreshadow of the complete relationship God wants to have with him whom He created in His likeness.

But in order for us to move from a pure physical life to a physical/ spiritual life with God, God had to pay a great price because of our sins committed against God and each other.

Hebrews 9:15 says, “And for this cause he is the mediator of the New Testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that was under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritances.”

This is made possible by the blood of Jesus shed when He died on the Cross. This is why God sent Jesus to this earth where we live and let Him die. Jesus died on the Cross so we could accept Jesus and show our belief in Him through our testimonies of our Salvation received when we accept Jesus to be our Saviour.

As witnesses we are to tell of our eternal inheritance through Jesus that we will receive when we die physically and go to heaven. Jesus’ death and resurrection makes it possible for us to have a testament to give that is eternal.

Hebrews 9:16-22 tells us all about why we have a testament of eternal life to give. Blood represents life and is what makes life possible on this earth and in Heaven with God. We cannot live without blood in the physical life and the spiritual life. This is why Jesus died on the Cross and shed all His blood.

Hebrews 9:22 says, “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood and without shedding of blood is no remission.” When Jesus died on the Cross He shed every drop of His blood so we could be cleansed of our sins by accepting Jesus as our Saviour. Then Jesus resurrected from the dead and ascended in to Heaven to appear in the presence of God for us.” (verse 24) “But now once in the end of the world hath he offered to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.” (verse 26) It is appointed once for men to die, but after this the judgement. (verse 27) “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many, and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” (verse 28) This is why we can live after our physical death comes.
