A dozen nominees will vie for Wilkes Teacher of the Year honors for ’17-18

Nominees for Wilkes County Teacher of the Year have been selected from each of the four Wilkes County Schools for the 2017-2018 school year, the Wilkes County Board of Education has announced.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Rosemary Caddell presented the nominees at the school system’s county-wide meeting on Monday, July 31. Nominees are Julie Driggers, Wanda Jackson, and Susan Poss from Washington-Wilkes Primary School; Marquita Turman and Lindsey Waller from Washington Wilkes Elementary School; Jill Gaddy, Franklin Jones, and Luke Kellogg from Washington-Wilkes Middle School; and Michael Atkinson, Lise Kalla, Tyler Moon, and Marsha Willis from Washington Wilkes Comprehensive High School.

One finalist from each school will be honored and awarded at a reception to be held in October. Each school winner will receive an engraved plaque and a cash award. The system-wide winner will receive an additional cash award and will be added to the system-wide Teacher of the Year plaque on display at the Wilkes County Board of Education.

Wilkes County’s Teacher of the Year will represent the county in the state Teacher of the Year 2019 competition and will be honored at a state banquet in the spring.
