W-W FFA officers who attended the COLT Conference were (l-r) Brenton Bailey, Kylie Weaver, Colton Bearse, Anna Kate Hefner, and Dixon Caddell. The officers of the Washington Wilkes FFA Chapter were part of the more than 350 chapter officers representing 45 FFA chapters from across Georgia who attended sessions of the 2017 Chapter Officer Leadership Training Conference (COLT).

Two of the sessions of COLT were held July 17-19 at the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center near Covington, and two were held at Camp John Hope near Fort Valley. This year’s COLT theme is “WE: Invest. Inspire. Ignite.”

Chapter officers were challenged to create a set of standards for their team and write down goals for the year. Participants attended workshops that focused on professionalism, service, commitment, sharing the message, recruitment, and teamwork. The students also began planning their chapter’s Program of Activities for the coming year and learned strategies for time management, creativity, and communication. Officers were encouraged to make an impact in their school and community and gained ideas for member involvement, fundraising, and promoting the FFA.

“COLT Conference provides a great opportunity for chapter officers to learn ways to work together, set goals, and plan out their year as a chapter officer team,” Georgia FFA President Tucker Felkins said. “We appreciate the dedication set forth by these students in creating goals that will help invest in their chapters, inspire their members, and ignite a passion for success throughout this school year!”

The officers from the Washington Wilkes FFA chapter who attended COLT were Colton Bearse, president; Dixon Caddell, vice president; Anna Kate Hefner, treasurer; Kylie Weaver, sentinel; and Brenton Bailey, student advisor.
