Carol Thomas was honored on the occasion of her retirement from Farmers State Bank in Washington at a celebration hosted by her son, Antonio Thomas of Atlanta, and daughter, Latonya Thomas Byrd of Augusta, at The Jockey Club on Saturday, July 22.

Mrs. Thomas’s last day after 20 years of service at Farmers State was July 28. Prior to her years at the bank, Mrs. Thomas worked as a para-pro and secretary at Washington Wilkes Comprehensive High School.

For her celebration, tables, covered in white cloths, were centered with raised glass holders with votive candles nestled in blue rocks flanked by hurricane globes with white candles, all clustered in swirls of burlap.

Guests could choose from a menu of fried shrimp, pecan chicken, shrimp and grits, ribeye steak, and honey citrus jumbo shrimp, all with delicious accompaniments.

In honor of the occasion Mrs. Thomas was presented a beautiful and delicious cake decorated with colorful swirls and the words “Congratulations, You Made It!”

Numerous comments and remarks were made by family, friends, and co-workers during the evening.

Girls who grew up in the Tyrone community around the family assisted and served as DJ for the evening.

Joining Mrs. Thomas, her husband, Calvin, and hosts, were grandchildren, Stephen Thomas and Anthony Thomas of Atlanta, Jordan Byrd and Kamryn Byrd of Augusta; brothers-in-law and wives, Bobby and Eula Thomas and Lucious and Virginia Thomas, all of Crawfordville; sister-in-law, Bernice Thomas of Augusta, niece, Elaine Thomas of Crawfordville, as well as a host of friends.
