Pompey’s Chapel Baptist Church will hold its homecoming service on Sunday, August 27, at 11:30 a.m. with guest speaker Pastor Bryan Ware. Music will be by Kuntry Boyz. Dinner will be served.

The descendants and connected families of Daniel Lumpkin Walker and Margaret Elizabeth Stephenson Walker will meet for their annual reunion Sunday, Auvival gust 20, at Fishing Creek Baptist Church. A covered dish lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Old family photographs, documents, and genealogy information will be on display. All descendants of Lumpkin’s parents, Tarlton W. Walker and Sarah Headen Walker are also invited to attend.

Pole Branch Missionary Baptist Church will hold its homecoming on Sunday, August 27, at 11:15 a.m. and revival services August 28-31 at 7:30 p.m. nightly.

Rocky Mount Baptist Church will hold a three night revival August 21-23 at 7:30 p.m. nightly with guest speaker Min. Morris Duncan.

The WORD Bible Study Class Tent Service is scheduled for Saturday, September 16, at 11 a.m. at 415 Lexington Ave., Washington.

The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements. Call the Wilkes County Health Department at 706-678- 2622 for more information and to schedule an appointment.

Hilliard Station Baptist Church will have its homecoming program on Sunday, August 20, at 11:45 a.m. The guest speaker will be Minister Denise Brightwell from Antioch Baptist Church in Greensboro. Dinner will be served. The public is invited.

The Tignall City Council will meet at City Hall in Tignall on Wednesday, September 13, at 7 p.m.

Mount Nebo Baptist Church will hold revival services August 29-31, at 7:30 p.m. nightly with guest speakers Rev. Willie J. White of Lincolnton on Tuesday; Rev. Norman Williams of Washington, Wednesday; and Rev. Paul Hull of Washington, Thursday.

The Community Outreach Ministry of the Washington Seventh DayAdventist Church is sponsoring a children’s health fair on Sunday, August 20, from 1-5 p.m., at The Pope Center, featuring back to school giveaways, health lifestyle activities, and door prizes. Targeting grades K-8 and teaching wellness, there will be emphasis on drinking water, exercising, better nutrition, sleep/ rest, proper sunlight, and fresh air. There will be a parents class scheduled called “Raising Our Kids to be Winners,” and blood pressure screening.

The Bartram Trail Regional Library System will close Friday at noon – including the Mary Willis Library, the Thomson McDuffie Library, and the Crawfordville Library – in memory of the first Regional Library Director, Mrs. Marjorie Morrow who died August 9.

The 126th Annual Session of the Third Shiloh Missionary Baptist Association will be hosted by the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and Pastor Charles Belton. The Session will convene at the Third Shiloh’s Rev. G. L. Avery Center, 219 McLendon Drive in Washington Wednesday and Thursday, September, 27-28, 2017, at 8:15 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

Bethlehem Baptist Church will hold its annual homecoming service on Sunday, August 20, at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Brenda Nunnally and at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Anthony Jones. Dinner will follow in the fellowship hall. Three nights of revival will follow Tuesday-Thursday, August 22-24, at 7:30 p.m. nightly with Rev. Anthony Jones on Tuesday, and Rev. Roosevelt Jones on Wednesday and Thursday. Both ministers are from House of God House of Prayer in Warrenton.

The Downtown Development Authority of the City of Washington will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the City Hall Annex on Thursday, September 21.

This Friday, August 18, will mark the first Downtown Movie Night for the city of Washington. Everyone is invited to The Square at 8 p.m. for a free showing of Disney’s Moana .

The Washington City Council will meet on Monday, September September 11, at The Pope Center beginning at 6 p.m. A work session will precede the meeting at 5:30 p.m.
