Clifford Burke

A memorial service for Clifford “Kip” Burke, 63, of Washington, will be announced at a later date. He died Sunday, August 13, 2017, at home surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Mr. Burke was born on March 12, 1954, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Charles C. and Elizabeth Rogers Burke. He was married to Margie Sprayberry Burke and had two sons, Philip Burke of Athens, and Charlie Burke of Atlanta.

A journalist, editor, and writer, Mr. Burke had been in the news business for 35 years including 15 years of service in the United States Navy as a journalist and photo journalist. He had served on the staff and as news editor of The News-Reporter since 2003 and was previously the managing editor of Surface Warfare magazine, contributing editor of Christian Retailing magazine, contributing editor of New Man magazine, and content editor at iBelieve.com.

He was the ghostwriter of six published non-fiction books, and editor of 24 non-fiction books and four books of fiction.

He was a member of the Sanctuary Church of God in Washington, Georgia.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Burke was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Burke.

Survivors include his wife, Margie Burke; two sons, Philip Burke and Charlie Burke; and two sisters, Pat Silberman (Steve) of Finksburg, Maryland, and Rebecca Allison (Mack) of Greensboro, North Carolina.
