Faith begins with God, our Creator

By REV. FICKLEN GUIN
(Hebrews 11: 1-3)

We need to come to this chapter often and linger long that our spiritual faith in God will be birthed and become strong in all areas of our life.

The first verse says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (verse 1)

Faith begins in a person’s heart as a spiritual awakening of a person’s life, when he or she comes to trust in Jesus as Saviour of their life. This faith moves from the heart of a person to their mind, where the person’s actions in life begin to move forward in affecting their daily living.

It is dangerous to live our lives by feelings and proof governed by a person’s mind only. That is the reason we need to accept Jesus as our Saviour as early as possible in our lives. If we do not, we will make many blunders that will affect our lives. Sin, in any form, comes upon a person who does not have faith in Jesus, God’s only begotten Son, given to us by God for our salvation and guidance in life.

The author of Hebrews says, “For by it the elders received witness,” meaning awareness for guidance based on faith in God our Creator and Saviour of our soul. (verse 2)

Verse 3 then says, “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which were seen were not made of things which do appear.” God spoke the world into existence.

To know the real meaning of this verse we have to go to the first verse in the Bible where is says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and earth” by speaking everything into existence. God had nothing when He began His creation.

Therefore, we must understand that “faith” begins with God our Creator and comes to us through Jesus as our Saviour. This leads us to Genesis 1:1, the first verse in the Bible.

If we are truthful to ourselves we will have to admit that this is hard to understand and believe. Humans always want to have proof before believing. But anything that has to have proof can be taken from us. What we receive from God our Creator by faith through Jesus as our Saviour cannot be taken from us because what God and Jesus give to us is sealed by the Holy Spirit of God who comes into our innermost being, our heart, which houses our Salvation and cannot be taken from us because we now have our faith in God. That is why we can believe, “In the beginning God created the heaven and earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
