The Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators Association (LWREA) will meet Thursday, September 14, at 11 a.m. at the Mary Willis Library. All retired educators and friends of education are invited to support LWREA.

A One-Night Youth Revival will be held October 7 at 6 p.m., on The Square in downtown Washington with Rev. Izayah Singleton.

The Wills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary membership meeting will be Tuesday, September 26, at 4 p.m. at the home of Ashley Barnett. Members, prospective members, and interested persons are invited to attend.

The Washington City Council will meet on Monday, September September 11, at The Pope Center beginning at 6 p.m. A work session will precede the meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Twin Oak Baptist Church will hold three nights of revival Monday-Wednesday, September 18-20, at 7 p.m. each night with speaker Rev. Charles E. Lacy.

On Thursday, September 7, at 5:30 p.m. in the W-WES gymasium, the W-WCHS football and competition cheerleaders will host an exhibition showcasing their routine before their first competition September 9 at Dawson County High School. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. The public is invited. There is no admission fee.

The Rayle City Council will meet at City Hall on Tuesday, September 12, at 6 p.m.

Jackson Chapel AME Church will celebrate its 150th church anniversary on Sunday, September 24 at 2:30 p.m.

New Springhill Baptist Church of Philomath will hold its pastor appreciation service for Rev. Dr. Reginald A Hunter on Sunday, October 1, at 2:30 p.m. with guest speaker Pastor James Washington of New Grove Baptist Church. Dinner will be held at 1:30 p.m.

The Roy L. Burns Senior Center will hold a yard sale October 4-6. Proceeds will benefit activities at the center. Anyone wishing to donate items to the yard sale may drop them off at 108 Marshall Street. Call 706-678-2518 for any additional information.

Trinity Baptist Church will hold a “Let Us Pray Together” prayer service on Saturday, September 9 at 3 p.m. “Prayer is the Key.”

“Frank’s Nightmare: The Story of a B-17 and Its Sole Survivor,” the first course of the year for OLLI@UGA, will be presented Monday, September 18, at 2 p.m., at the Parish Hall of the Episcopal Church of the Mediator. Bill Cosgrove of Athens, retired from the EPA, who has toured WWII battlefields in Europe many times, will offer the course. The 126th Annual Session of the Third Shiloh Missionary Baptist Association will be hosted by the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and Pastor Charles Belton. The Session will convene at the Third Shiloh’s Rev. G. L. Avery Center, 219 McLendon Drive in Washington Wednesday and Thursday, September, 27-28, 2017, at 8:15 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements. Call the Wilkes County Health Department at 706-678-2622 for more information and to schedule an appointment.

Candidates for the 2017 city of Washington election are reminded that an announcement article of their intentions to seek office will be run free of charge in The News-Reporter one time. However, information for such an article must be received by the newspaper not later than Friday, September 8, and may include only biographical information and a brief statement of intent. Transforming Life Ministries will observe its 24th anniversary with a Street Ministry Celebration on Saturday, September 30, at noon on “Jimmy Martin’s Hill” at the corner of Whitehall Street and Hospital Drive across from the Red Roof. The theme will be “God Loves You!” and there will be preaching, praying, and praising, in an effort to be a “Jesus Witness.” Lunch will be served.
