Smyrna UMC will host revival Sun.-Wed.

Smyrna United Methodist Church will host its annual revival September 10-13 at 7 p.m. with guest pastor Rev. Calvin Ward.

Rev. Ward was pastor of the Little River Charge, which included Bethel, Mt. Zion, and Smyrna, with Pierce’s Chapel at the time, from 1962-66. He is retired and lives in Danielsville, Georgia, with his wife, June. He is still very physically active, especially with running and archery, He speaks at churches and has worked with school-age children and scouts for many years.

Special music for the week is scheduled by Carol Lewis and Kathy Cawley on Sunday; Jay Shively, Monday; The New Apostles, Tuesday; and Bill Maxwell, Wednesday. The pianist scheduled for the revival is Russ Goldman and song leader Margaret Anne Locklair. A covered dish meal will be held on Sunday, September 10, at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, September 17, Smyrna UMC will host a charge-wide service at 11 a.m. with Royce Hughes speaking. Hughes was pastor of the charge in 1968-69. He and his wife, Jane, live in Ellijay, Georgia, and are members of Cartecay UMC. There will be a covered dish meal following the service.

On Sunday, September 24, Smyrna will also host Dennis and Laurie Dehil and Angelynn Price speaking on their Holy Land experience at the regular 9:30 a.m. worship service time.

Host pastor Rev. Richard Broome invites all to join them for all of these services, and to attend for a special time of fellowship and remembrance with the charge’s two former pastors. The church is located at 100 S. Smyrna Church Road, three miles east of Washington on Hwy. 378 toward Lincolnton.
