Donald A. Wheatley Jr.

A celebration of the life of Donald A. “Don” Wheatley Jr., 46, was held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2017, in Hillside Memorial Chapel of Clarkesville, Georgia, with Rev. Jamie Harvey officiating. A graveside service followed at 3 p.m. in the Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery in Washington, Georgia. He died Monday, August 28, 2017, following a long and courageous battle.

Mr. Wheatley was born in Washington, Georgia. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Baldwin where he enjoyed playing the bass. Don loved music, pottery, and folk art. He was an original member and “picker” with the Tallulah Falls Opry. He could play any instrument that had a string. Taking “everything in stride,” he will be remembered for his positive outlook, unique humor, and quick wit.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Van and Sue Bufford, and father-in-law, Rev. Charles Masters.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Robin Masters Wheatley of Demorest; two children, Mikayla Charlie Wheatley and Jacob Donald Wheatley, both of Demorest; parents, Donald and Barbara Wheatley of Washington; one brother, Jeremy Wheatley of Athens; grandparents, Stanley and Katherine Wheatley of Washington; and mother-in-law, Dorlyn Masters of Demorest.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Don’s family to assist with his medical expenses. Donations may be made at any Habersham Federal Credit Union location.
